Enact Change

Mental health services that help you find ground, take control, and live more authentically you.

Mission

Who We Are

Enact Counseling is proudly based in Baltimore City, and focuses on providing effective therapy from a radically different perspective  -- one that isn't based in capitalism, or in the over medicalization of mental health, nor siloing the brain from the rest of the body. The team at Enact believes that therapy is not one size fits all, and that our goal is to be agents of the change you want to see. We work diligently to provide patient centered services, not system centered services. We often work with folks that feel marginalized, or those who feel they can't live up to society's standards.

APPROACHES

We offer a variety of therapeutic approaches, in-person and online, tailored to meet your individual needs.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps individuals accept and embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to control or avoid them. It focuses on enhancing psychological flexibility by promoting mindfulness, cognitive defusion (separating oneself from one's thoughts), and being present in the moment. ACT encourages people to clarify their personal values and commit to actions that align with these values, even when faced with challenges. The goal is to foster a more meaningful and fulfilling life by helping individuals live in accordance with what truly matters to them.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Peter Levine to help individuals process and heal from trauma by focusing on bodily sensations and responses. The method emphasizes the importance of physical experiences and bodily awareness in addressing and releasing trauma, as opposed to solely discussing traumatic events. SE helps individuals tune into their physical sensations, recognize and release stored tension, and restore the body’s natural equilibrium. By guiding clients to observe and gently process these sensations, SE aims to alleviate symptoms of trauma, improve emotional resilience, and foster a sense of safety and well-being.

Strong Black Woman Schema

The Strong Black Woman (SBW) schema is a cultural construct that portrays Black women as inherently resilient, self-sufficient, and emotionally invulnerable, often leading to the suppression of their own needs and feelings. In therapy, addressing the SBW schema involves helping clients recognize and challenge these cultural expectations, validate their emotional experiences, and develop healthier coping strategies. Therapists work to create a space where Black women can express their vulnerabilities, explore the impact of societal pressures, and foster self-compassion, ultimately promoting a more balanced and authentic self-expression.
